As the father of both a son and daughter, I was privileged to be able to work on a PR campaign on behalf of two not-for-profit groups in Ontario that are dedicated to promoting healthy and equal relationships between boys and girls, women and men. Our clients - the White Ribbon Campaign and le Centre ontarien pour la prévention des agressions (COPA) - secured funding from the Government of Ontario to develop a new web site and supporting campaign to encourage and support men in their efforts to mentor boys on this important topic.
I know full well that talking to either of my kids about relationships between genders is delicate at the best of times. I also know that the continuing parade of unhealthy images in the media and the sad reality that violence against women remains all too common makes it imperative that I have that talk.
